FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Why use kitchen wraps?
Vinyl kitchen wraps are one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to upgrade your kitchen without the mess, cost, or commitment of a full renovation. They’re ideal for refreshing outdated cupboards, worktops, or appliances and are perfect for renters, DIY-ers, and budget-conscious renovators. The transformation is instant, and the finish can look just as good as a full refit.
What surfaces can kitchen wraps be applied to?
Wraps can be applied to most smooth, clean, and dry surfaces such as laminate, melamine, MDF, painted wood, and metal. They're not recommended for rough, highly textured, greasy, or damp surfaces. Always test a small area first if unsure.
How do I remove air bubbles?
Use a pin or air release tool to gently pop the bubble, then smooth it out with your squeegee or a clean cloth. Work from the centre of the bubble outward. For larger bubbles, heat can help soften the vinyl and ease out the air.
What tools will I need?
To get a clean and professional finish, you'll need:
- A felt-edged squeegee
- A sharp utility knife or scalpel
- Measuring tape
- A cleaning cloth and degreaser
- A pin or air release tool
- A heat gun or hairdryer (for bevelled areas)
- Clear silicone sealant (for worktops or wet zones)
Are kitchen wraps heat resistant?
Yes, quality vinyl wrap is heat resistant up to 75°C. It’s suitable for general kitchen use near kettles, toasters, and hobs. It should not be exposed to direct contact with hot pans, oven fronts, or open flames.
Are kitchen wraps water resistant?
Wraps are fully water resistant once applied correctly and sealed at the edges. They can be wiped down, cleaned regularly, and will stand up to kitchen moisture and spills. For areas near sinks or around worktop edges, sealing with silicone is strongly recommended.
Can kitchen wraps be applied to bevelled or shaker-style doors?
Yes, bevelled and shaker doors can be wrapped — but they require a bit more skill and heat to get the vinyl to mould into the contours. A heat gun or hairdryer helps soften the vinyl so it can stretch around the recessed areas without creasing. Go slowly and use a felt squeegee to press the vinyl into edges.
How do I clean and maintain kitchen wraps?
Vinyl-wrapped surfaces should be cleaned using a soft cloth and mild cleaning spray. Avoid harsh abrasives, bleach, or anything that could scratch or melt the vinyl. Gently wipe spills, and avoid soaking edges with excess water. Treat them like a painted cupboard door.
Can kitchen wraps be removed?
Yes, wraps can be peeled off carefully without damaging most surfaces. Warm the vinyl slightly with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, then pull it back slowly at a 45-degree angle. Any remaining residue can be cleaned with adhesive remover or soapy water.
